Many people with young children today are faced with a very difficult decision at the time they go out the door and return to work. Where is the best place to leave my child for the day? Choices that are available could be a family member, friend, neighbourhood babysitter or a licensed child care centre. The Town of Carleton Place provides centre based programs to service our community.

Our programs are non-profit daycares, school age programs, and summer camps that are operated as a department of the Town of Carleton Place. We are also licensed through the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, and are inspected by the Ministry of Health. Teachers in our program are qualified Early Childhood Educators which means they are trained to work with children aged birth to twelve years.

We offer an integrated program and have a wide and varied amount of experience and training to work with children with special needs as well.

Staff in our program strive to offer the best care for children providing a secure environment that is varied in nature (activities include: crafts, music, sensory, cooking, math, etc.). We offer the children a consistent routine that is a lot of fun!

Children receive three meals per day that are nutritionally balanced and prepared fresh each day. The program operates Monday to Friday generally from 6:30am to 6:00pm. The Province of Ontario has implemented a new income based subsidy system across the province as of January 1st, 2007. The following information should give you a fairly good idea of whether or not you would qualify for money towards child care costs.

The system works from your net income level on your most recent Income Tax Assessment or Child Care Tax Benifit Notice. Below is an example of the calculations, where spousal income is progressively taxed at different levels. If you know what your net income is you can figure out how much you would pay for child care per month.

History and Philosophy

For over 25 years, the Carleton Place Daycare has been offering a fun and educational environment for children to grow, learn, and make friends for the next 25 years of their life. Founded in 1983, the daycare began operation separate from the Town of Carleton Place. Since that time, the program has developed and improved and is now being operated as a department of the Town with guidance and support of an Advisory Committee appointed by Council. The Advisory Committee includes parents and community members, who help make decisions relating to local childcare, plan special events, and contribute a lot of time and effort into making sure the daycare offers the best environment for children.

The Carleton Place Daycare offers a nursery school program, infant,toddler, preschool and school-age care, as well as municipal summer camps. The overall goal for our programs is to offer a secure, stimulating environment with services to suit as many needs as possible in our community.
