Carleton Place Cenotaph (Memorial Park)
June 6th, 2019 marks the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the landing of our Canadian troops at Juno Beach in Normandy during WW11.
To commemorate this special occasion, Carleton Place Legion Branch #192 will be holding a short parade and Cenotaph Ceremony on Saturday, June 8th, 2019.
Parade members form up at the Town Centre on Mill Street at 11:15 a.m. with the parade kicking off at 11:30 a.m. There will be a Legion Colour Party, Legion members and members of the Lanark #211 Sea Cadets lead the parade along with any Veterans who would like to join. The parade will also be led by Parade Commander and Branch #192 President, Peter Shaffer. Taking the salute for the parade will be Ontario Command 1st Vice-President Garry Pond and members of Branch #192 and George Wood, incoming Deputy District 'G' Commander and also a member of the local Branch.
The parade will march along Beckwith Street from Mill Street to Veterans Way and then to our Cenotaph in Memorial Park. Members of the Lanark #211 Sea Cadets will form a Sentry at our Cenotaph for a Commemorative Ceremony taking place there.
Following the ceremony at our Cenotaph, the parade will then reform and parade back to our Town Centre.
This is a monumental WW11 anniversary, and Carleton Place Legion Branch #192 is proud to be commemorating a part of our Canadian history through this parade and ceremony.
