Preserving Family Treasures

CP&B Heritage Museum (267 Edmund St)

Join us for an interesting afternoon! Hosts Kayla Ubbink and Michelle Bedel will share ways to care for and safely display your family treasures!

Kyla Ubbink of Ubbink Book & Paper Conservation, will explain how to avoid damage caused by pollutants, poor climate, light, pests, and mould through proper boxing, housing and storage.
Demonstrations in cleaning books, photographs and paper, removing clips and staples, and separating photographs from ‘sticky’ album pages, will provide you with the skills needed to start saving your family archives now.

Michelle Bedel, is the owner of Surrounding Memories Custom Picture Framing in Carleton Place. Since 2005 Michelle has provided custom framing for treasured family heirlooms. Not only paper items can be framed for display - Michelle has framed itmes including christening gowns, medals and even a square head nail for posterity! She'll be discussing the most common types, styles and methods of framing and what you can expect when visiting your custom picture framer.

Taking place on Sunday, January 19th from 1 to 3 pm.
Admission is $10, and $5 for Museum Members.
