SUMMARY:Community Tattoo
DESCRIPTION:The sights and sounds of the Pipes and Drums and Highland Dancing will be returning to the Town of Carleton Place again this year on Sunday\, September 20th. It is an event you will not want to miss and will be one of the largest gatherings of Pipe Bands and Highland Dancers that have assembled in the Town of Carleton Place since the first Community Scottish Tattoo was held some 32 years ago. \nThe Tattoo is being dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion and will include 9 Pipe Bands and two Highland Dance groups and will once again be held on the grounds adjoining the Captain A. Roy Brown Legion Branch 192 building located at 177 George Street in Carleton Place beginning at 12 noon. \nThe MacEóin-Ramsay Pipe Band will be the Duty Band for the Tattoo this year and the Senior Drum Major will be Darryl Lim\, Drum Major of the Ottawa Caledonian Pipes and Drums. The Duty Band is a competition band\, and they have won several piping and drumming competitions within their piping and drumming categories. \nRefreshments and BBQ food will be available throughout the afternoon in the shaded backyard of the Legion grounds at a nominal cost. No pets will be allowed on the Legion grounds other than recognized certified service dogs\, so please leave other pets at home. Since available seating in the Legion back yard is limited\, it is suggested that people bring their own lawn chairs. \nThis event is a community event\, and the general public are cordially invited to enjoy some true Scottish Heritage through the sights and sounds of the Pipes and Drums and Highland Dancers and to help celebrate the 100th Anniversary of The Royal Canadian Legion. \nParking in and around the Legion grounds is very limited in order to accommodate the various Pipe Bands and volunteers. There will also be street closures. So\, in order to alleviate the parking problem\, and to assist with the parking problem\, Leduc Bus Lines have donated the use of a bus to shuttle people to and from the Tattoo. The pickup and dropoff area will be the Carleton Place Farmers Market Square parking lot at the corner of Lake Avenue East and Beckwith Street. \nThere will be three times for pickup and dropoff of those wishing to utilize the bus shuttle. The pickup times will be10:30 a.m.\, 11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Dropoff times following the Tattoo will be at approximately 4:00 p.m.\, 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. but will be dependent on the time that the Tattoo has been completed. \nRoad closures will include Morphy Street from Mullet Street to Ramsay Street\, and Ramsay Street from Morphy Street to George Street. Vehicles are asked not to park on these two streets and pedestrians are also asked not to congregate on either of these two streets or their sidewalks. Pipe bands will be congregating on Morphy Street and march along Ramsay Street to George Street prior to marching onto the playing field to perform throughout the afternoon. \nThe major sponsor for this event is TES (Tops Environmental Solutions) with additional support received through the Town of Carleton Place and other local businesses.
