We’re doing something just as fun this fall for all those introverts out there! \nGet out of the house and “meet” some new people without the pressure of having to do more than just say hello. Join us on Tuesday\, September 23rd from 6-7:30pm at the library for a night of silent art-ing. Bring along whatever you’re working on—a painting\, your sketchbook\, that blanket you’re crocheting—and do it quietly in a room full of other people who love to create\, but don’t want the pressure of having to make conversation.  Maybe it’ll happen naturally\, but expect to just “art” with us for a bit and then go home. Maybe you’ll meet a new coffee friend\, or maybe you’ll just get out of the house for a while. \nWhatever the reason\, we’d love to see you on Tuesday\, September 23rd.

DESCRIPTION:As recently as 15 years ago\,  Red Cross Responses to Disasters here in Canada were predominantly helping those who were impacted by local house and apartment fires and the very occasional ice storm and power outage.  More recently\, Red Cross Volunteers find themselves occupied by a dramatic increase in climate-related and other events.  Planning for annual fire and flood seasons that dislocate more and more people\, responding to tornadoes and hurricanes is unprecedented. Deployments across the country are year round. \nIn this course you will learn what steps you can take to prepare for a range of emergencies\, the risks in our community\, the plan you need to make\, and the kit you will need to take of yourself and your family. The more people can take care of themselves for that first 72 hours of a disaster\, the more our first responders\, such as police\, fire\, ambulance\, hydro\, water and road crews\, can focus on helping those who cannot help themselves. \nJoin us on Wednesday\, September 24 from 6-7:30pm for an informative meeting where you’ll learn what you need to prepare for a 72 Hour Emergency. DESCRIPTION:Registration Required – Must also be available Saturday\, October 4th\, 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. \nOur final series of fun Robotics sessions for the year will take place starting in September. If your child has enjoyed any of the Robotics sessions this year\, we’ve got an exciting project starting this month. \nKids aged 8-12 are welcome to register for the final Lego Sumobots session of 2025 which will take place on Tuesday\, September 30 from 5-7:30pm.  Participants will be grouped into teams and will compete against each other until two teams are left. Everyone in this session MUST also be available for Saturday\, October 4 from 1-3:30pm. \nThe Saturday\, October 4th session will pit the two winning teams from Tuesday against each other in an epic playoff to become the final team to represent the Carleton Place Public Library on Saturday\, November 8th at the Lanark Highlands Public Library. All participants here must also be able to participate on November 8th or the second team will become the back up. \nThanks to a generous grant from Lanark County and funding from the Elizabeth Kelly Foundation\, all Lanark County libraries have been able to run these robotics sessions over the past year\, culminating in this exciting playoff on November 8th.  One team from each library will play against another until it comes down to one winning library team. This is an exciting tournament which will have prizes and possibly some pizza to reward the participants. \nRegistration for the September 30th session will begin on Tuesday\, September 16th starting at 9:30am on our social media and our website.
