DESCRIPTION:Local Author Michael Dupuis joined us earlier this year to talk about the Winnipeg General Strike of 1919\, and this time\, he’s back on the Anniversary of the Halifax Explosion—-Saturday\, December 6 at 1pm.  He’ll delve into the history of the event and focus on the reporters who covered the incident at that time. His book\, “THE WOMAN REPORTER AND THE HALIFAX EXPLOSION” will also be available for purchase at $30 a copy. \nIf you’re a history buff or have a connection to Halifax\, this will be a really interesting presentation that you won’t want to miss. He was raised with the tried and true DIY sentiment of “if you want something done\, you gotta do it yourself” launching his career recording in his basement\, printing his own shirts\, booking his own tours\, being his own manager and publicist… whatever it took to get it done. He toured for years with the indie-metal band the smalls\, and later turned his sights to writing Western songs\, creating a unique and quirky hybrid writing style along the way. He has received multiple domestic and international award nominations and wins. In 2022\, Lund won his 14th career Canadian Country Music Award and made his debut at the historic Grand Ole Opry. His album of originals\, El Viejo\, was released in February 2024.

Winterfest is a free\, family-friendly event for all ages to kick off the Holiday season. Get together and mingle in our beautiful downtown dining and shopping district and embrace the wintry weather and holiday spirit. \nMarket Square Pavilion:\nStart or end your evening at the Market Square Pavilion for an assortment of activities & entertainment including:\n-Locally Crafted Markets presents an outdoor holiday market under the Market Square Pavilion. Browse an assortment of unique gift ideas\, and treats.\n-The Rona Warming Station is where you can relax by the fire and enjoy some of the evening’s entertainment. \n-Visit the Cavanagh Construction Truck to get fun family photos with the lit up truck! They will be accepting non-perishable food bank donations as well. \n-Complete a holiday ornament craft and say “cheese” in an assortment of photo areas.\n-Have supper on site (or just a snack) at the vendors area! Enjoy woodfire pizza\, warm drinks\, pretzels\, fudge\, and more! \nTree Lighting:\nJoin Carleton Place Citizen of the Year- Peter Schaffer who will do the honours of lighting the Holiday Tree! Tree Lighting will commence at 5:55pm. \n  \nEntertainment Schedule: \n4:15pm – 5:00pm: Shimmy and Shake with the Luv2Groove Crew! They will be bringing the upbeat music and moves\, and invite you to dance along. \n5:00pm – 5:40pm: Busker Shows from Orbital Talent. Be prepared to be amazed with juggling\, acrobatics\, and fun. \n6:00pm – 8:00pm: Join Small Town Socials for a street party! Don’t forget your dancing shoes and good vibes. \nDowntown Carleton Place:\nTake advantage of sidewalk sales and in-store deals as our local businesses will be open late and ready to assist you with your holiday shopping. Enjoy carolling pop-ups while you pop in and out of stores. Keep an eye out for The Grinch! He will be wandering through Downtown Carleton Place causing Christmas mischief and handing out treats. \nHorse Drawn Wagon Rides: \nThe Downtown Carleton Place proudly presents free wagon rides. DESCRIPTION:The Children’s Holiday Shop is back for its fourth exciting year at Zion Memorial United Church on November 22nd from 3 PM to 7 PM. This beloved community event invites children to bring their holiday shopping lists and get a helping hand from volunteer elves who will assist them in selecting\, wrapping\, and personalizing their gifts. \nThis year\, we are thrilled to continue our tradition of supporting the Lanark County Food Bank. While there is no cost to participate\, we encourage attendees to bring donations of goods or cash to support this vital local resource. Over the past three years\, our young shoppers have made a remarkable impact\, donating a total of 859 lbs of food and $1259. With your help\, we aim to surpass those numbers in 2025\, setting a goal of $500 and 500 lbs of food for this event. \nParents are invited to relax in the “Parents Lounge\,” where they can enjoy holiday refreshments\, listen to music\, and socialize while their children shop. It is the perfect way to make the most of the holiday season! \nWe are incredibly grateful to Zion-Memorial United Church for their ongoing support\, and we can’t wait to see the community come together once again. \nIn preparation for the Children’s Holiday Shop\, we will begin accepting donations of new or gently used items for the shop\, as well as wrapping paper\, tape\, and craft supplies starting November 9th. \nPlease reach out via email (arizaconsulting1@gmail.com) to arrange a pickup or drop off. \nJoin us for a festive day filled with holiday cheer and community spirit\, and don’t forget to stay in town for Winterfest (4pm-8pm)! \nJoin us in spreading holiday joy while supporting our community!
