What's New
Gilles Bridge Reopening
The Town of Carleton Place Public Works Department would like to advise residents that starting Tuesday, January 18th, residents can start using the Gillies Bridge to access the north side of our community. The bridge will be northbound only to allow emergency services swifter access to the north side. Crews are currently continuing with the commissioning process for the new watermain but this will not impact the opening of the Gillies Bridge.
Ottawa Valley Recreation Trail (OVRT)
The Town of Carleton is fortunate to have the beautiful OVRT and pedestrians are encouraged to utilize the OVRT to navigate their way over the river. Public Works is maintaining the paved portion of the trail throughout the winter to provide pedestrians with a safe route. Additional signage has been installed near the bridge to advise motorized vehicles to watch for pedestrians. Lighting has also been installed from Rosamond Street to Carleton Junction along the trail to increase the safety for pedestrians.
Central Bridge – Closure Reminder
Starting Monday, January 24th, the Central Bridge will be closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
Bridge Street Reconstruction Project
Property and business owners may have already been approached or will be approached in the near future by Blastek Engineering Group to conduct a preconstruction inspection of their property. Despite their name, please be assured there will be no blasting on Bridge Street. These inspections are solely intended to document the existing condition of properties in advance of the upcoming reconstruction of Bridge Street this coming May.
