As temperatures final start to rise, so does the number of construction projects across our community. The Town of Carleton Place Public Works Department strives to keep our residents informed of all our construction activities however, schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, changes in the provision of materials and/or availability of staff. The following activities are upcoming this week:
Bridge Street Reconstruction Project
Louis Bray’s crews will continue with catch basin installations on Bridge St. commencing near Albert St. and will work their way northward to Franklin Street. As they move from catch basin to catch basin, they will open the road behind them to local traffic. This approach is being taken to keep vehicular access as close as possible to businesses without compromising safety. Taking this approach also means that there may be times vehicles are required to make 3-point turns on Bridge Street as the work zone will be completely restricted. This situation, along with the active construction activities, requires caution when travelling down Bridge Street.
Also, Louis Bray will be commencing sidewalk removals on Bridge Street at Lake Avenue on the west side and will move northward towards College Street.
Finally, water valve replacement by Town crews is nearing completion with work occurring in the section of Bridge Street from Franklin Street to Mill Street.
As the sidewalk removal and water valve replacements are occurring on the side of the roadway, it is anticipated this full road closures will not be required. However, there will likely be lane closures with traffic control measures in place.
Central Bridge Reconstruction Project
Now that the retaining wall and north abutment demolition work have been completed, Louis Bray intends to commence removal operations on the south abutment in front of the Town Hall. In addition, crews will continue formwork and rebar installation on the pier caps.
The Town has hired Thomas Cavanagh Construction for this year’s municipal construction projects.
The reconstruction of Moffatt Street from McKenzie Street to Townline Road will include storm catch basin replacements and installation (where required), installation of new concrete curbs and sidewalks, replacement of the granular base and laying of new asphalt.
In the coming days, sections of asphalt will be removed where crews will be replacing and installing additional stormwater catch basins and leads.
Morris Street (Dunham Street to Mississippi Road)
The Town of Carleton Place will be proceeding with an asphalt overlay on Morris Street from Dunham Street to Mississippi Road. This overlay program includes grinding the existing asphalt surface and installing a new top lift of asphalt. Crews will also be replacing concrete sidewalks where required next week.
Morris Street (Graham Street to Napoleon Street)
This year as part of our overlay program, Cavanagh Construction will be grinding the existing asphalt surface and installing a new top lift of asphalt on Morris Street from Graham Street to Napoleon Street. Starting next week, crews will be excavating and extending the existing sidewalk west of Sarah Street to Napoleon Street.
Monitoring Well Installation on the OVRT
The Town will have a contractor installing monitoring wells within the Ottawa Valley Recreation Trail (OVRT) corridor, adjacent to the Farmer’s Market. This work is scheduled to occur on May 18th. The trail will remain open for all users as this work is occurring off to the side of the trail. We ask that all trail users not enter the identified work zone.
