February is Black History Month in Canada. A time to embrace and discover the unique and inspiring stories of Black Canadians and to honour their legacy.
This year’s theme is “The Future is Now” and I would like everyone to take the time to educate themselves on recognizing the injustices faced by people of colour and to reflect on how we can all do our part to create a more equal and welcoming community. The Carleton Place Public Library has some great reading suggestions on their Facebook page. You can also explore Canada’s Black History Month website which contains information on educational and historical resources related to the contributions of the Black community to our Country.
Let’s all take this opportunity to continue to make Carleton Place the best it can be and foster a sense of community where everyone feels safe and respected.
