Central Bridge Construction Update - February 10th, 2022

Demolition of the Central Bridge is now well underway, and the demolition crews are making significant progress. Crews have started working on the center span of the bridge with removal of sidewalks on both sides, removal of the abandoned natural gas and telecommunications infrastructure, the removal of the existing watermain, and the removal of bridge decking. All these components are being carefully sectioned into manageable pieces for safety and removed from the bridge for disposal.

The removal of the Central Bridge will continue for the next several weeks with crews gradually moving outward from the center section towards both the north and south approaches.  Please note there is a large barge located underneath the bridge to collect any debris from the demolition process. This controlled approach will ensure that no debris enters the river and will maintain a safe work environment for crews working on this project.
