Central Bridge Construction Update - April 21st, 2022

Bridge Street Reconstruction – Starting May 2nd!

As we approach the onset of the reconstruction of Bridge Street from Lake Avenue to the Central Bridge, a number of initiatives will be occurring in the coming days to prepare for the startup of Louis Bray’s operations. The following are activities planned for Bridge Street next week:

Carleton Place’s Public Works Staff will be continuing to replace water valves in the sidewalks. It is anticipated that the limits of work will be between Albert Street and Mill Street. This work will impact some localized parking stalls.

Louis Bray’s Staff will be installing construction signage and preparing for the commencement of operations on May 2nd.

Tree Removals on Bridge Street (Lake Avenue to Mill Street)

The Town will have a contractor on Bridge Street next week removing the existing trees as part of the Bridge Street reconstruction project. It was identified early in the planning stages for the downtown project that tree removal would be required due to the extent of the construction work. In an effort to try to save some of the trees, Town staff had investigated the potential of transplanting some of the smaller trees, but it was determined to be not feasible due to the proximity of underground utilities. We want to assure residents that the tree canopy is a priority of the Town.  There will be a total of 43 new trees planted as part of the scope of work which is more than what currently exists on Bridge Street. The trees to be planted will be species that are known for their resiliency in downtown environments comparable to Bridge Street.

The Town will be providing an additional update next week which provides further details relating to the schedule and methodology that Louis Bray Construction intends to implement regarding the Bridge Street reconstruction.
