Central Bridge Construction Update - April 28th, 2022

Bridge Street Reconstruction Project

The long-anticipated reconstruction of Bridge Street officially gets underway Monday, May 2nd, 2022, with the installation of construction signage to isolate work zones to local traffic only.  Once the signage is in place, the reconstruction process starts with the replacement of catch basins. This work will begin at the southern limit of the project, between Lake Avenue and College Street, and continue northward.  Simultaneously, the Public Works Department will be continuing the water valve replacement program in the sections of Bridge Street north of College Street.

Along with construction signage, there will be additional wayfinding signage installed to provide directions on how to access the Downtown Core. Similar signs have been in place around Town since January to assist motorists in locating the Downtown due to the Central Bridge Closure.  The additional signage will be installed along Beckwith Street and Victoria Street to identify appropriate access points to the downtown during construction.

Work will be continuing on the northwest retaining wall footing preparations and on the formwork and rebar installation for the new bearing seats on the piers.
