Central Bridge Construction Update - May 5th, 2022

Construction season is now in full swing with many areas currently under, or soon to be, under construction.  The Town of Carleton Place Public Works Department would like to remind residents to obey the posted signage as it is in place not only for the safety of construction crews but for your safety as well!

Bridge Street Reconstruction Project

We would like to remind residents that our downtown merchants are still open for business, and they would very much appreciate your patronage.  The Town has installed additional wayfinding signs which are similar to the ones that have been in place around the outskirts of Town since January due to the Central Bridge closure.  The additional signage is in place to assist those coming into the downtown area by identifying appropriate access points during construction.

The installation of catch basins will be continuing next week. Louis Bray’s crews have installed several catch basins at the southern limit of the project (near Lake Ave.) and will continue northward towards College Street.  Although Local Traffic is permitted in this section of Bridge Street, we ask motorists who have to enter this zone to travel very slowly (10 km/h) and be prepared to stop while maintaining as much distance from construction activities as possible. There have been instances of motorists entering the work zone and creating an unsafe situation for themselves and Louis Bray’s staff by coming in close proximity, or actually trying to progress through the active construction zone.  Please note Louis Bray will remove signage on Friday afternoons to allow residents unimpeded access to the downtown on weekends.  However, should there be any safety concerns, signage may remain in place over a weekend.

Public Works staff are continuing with the replacement of water valves on Bridge Street in the area north of Albert Street. This work will generally be taking place outside the flow of vehicle traffic but there may be short intervals where lane closures and traffic control measures will be required to ensure public safety. This work is planned for Wednesday and Thursday next week.

Additionally, the Town of Carleton Place would like to express our gratitude to everyone that made the Downtown at Dusk event last week a huge success! It was wonderful to see so many families taking in the event despite the cooler temperatures.

Central Bridge Reconstruction Project

Louis Bray’s crews continue to work on the piers and retaining walls. Formwork and rebar installation will be ongoing on both piers. It is anticipated that partial removal of the north abutment will commence next week.
