Construction Update - May 19th 2022

The Town of Carleton Place Public Works Department strives to keep our residents informed of all our construction activities however, schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, changes in the provision of materials and/or availability of staff.  The following activities are upcoming this week:

Bridge Street Reconstruction Project

The Town of Carleton Place is asking motorists navigating through this corridor to please proceed with extreme caution, Louis Bray is making every effort reasonably possible that allows residents and customers as much access as possible to the businesses within the Downtown core, but there have been several occurrences with motorists disregarding posted signage and/or traveling at excessive speeds within the construction zone.  These occurrences not only jeopardize the safety of construction crews but residents as well.  Please put safety first and respect the posted signage and traffic control measures in place!

Albert Street to Franklin Street

Louis Bray’s crews will continue with catch basin installations in this portion of Bridge Street. It is our intention to allow local traffic into this area to allow residents to continue to access downtown businesses and Municipal Parking Lots as much as safely possible. Crews will also be removing sidewalk panels on the west side of the street in this section.  Please note residents will have access to the sidewalks on the east side of the street and may have to cross the street to access the businesses on the west side.

Lake Avenue to College Street

Louis Bray’s electrical contractor will be starting the installation of the electrical system for the new streetlights and electrical outlets. This work will begin at Lake Avenue and move northwards towards College Street. The sidewalk in this section will be fully removed to allow the electrical contractor to dig the trench needed to replace the underground electrical system. We want to assure residents that businesses throughout Bridge Street are still open, however, residents may need to cross the street to access businesses on the west side of the street.

Central Bridge Reconstruction Project

Operations are ramping up on the reconstruction of the Central Bridge with multiple operations occurring in the coming weeks. Next week will see the potential of concrete pours for the new pier caps within the Mississippi River, and installation of dowels for the northeast retaining wall.  Additionally, the drilling contractor will be starting the installation of micropiles at the north abutment, similar to the process that was implemented on the piers within the River.  Although crews made significant progress on the south abutment this past week additional removal operations are required.

Morris Street (Dunham Street to Mississippi Road)

Crews will be removing and replacing concrete sidewalks where required.

Morris Street (Graham Street to Napoleon Street)

This week Cavanagh’s crews will be forming and pouring concrete for the new sidewalk along Morris Street.

Moffatt Street (Townline Road to McKenzie Street)

In the days ahead, Cavanagh Construction will be excavating the existing asphalt and replacing granular materials and installing additional stormwater catch basins and leads.
