Power Outage - May 23rd Update

Food Waste - We understand that residents will be experiencing food loss due to the power outage. We will be accepting extra bags of food waste on your regular garbage day. Please be mindful not to exceed the 15kg weight limit. If the bag is heavy, we are encouraging residents to double bag their waste or keep it in containers until their collection day to avoid spillage and animals getting into it.

Compost Yard Extra Hours - In order for residents to be able to dispose of yard waste from the storm, we are opening the Compost Yard at 128 Patterson Crescent with additional hours as follows:

  • Today from 12 noon to 5:00 p.m.
  • Tomorrow from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Water Safety - We have been in contact with the Ontario Clean Water Agency, the contractor for the Town’s water and wastewater systems, who has confirmed that both the water and sanitary systems have not been impacted by the recent storm and are completely safe.

Charging Station - The Arena will be open for device charging from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. We respectfully request that households limit the number of devices to no more than 2 to accommodate the large number of people who require the service. You will need to bring your own charging cables.

Shower Facilities - Limited shower facilities will be available at the Arena until 8:00 p.m. this evening. Residents will be required to bring all necessary supplies including towels to have a shower. To access the shower facilities, please go to the Arena doors closest to the trail and follow the signage.

Water Supplies - For residents who need water supplies, you can bring your own containers to the Arena for filling.

Wellness Checks - Carleton Place Firefighters will be going door to door today to Seniors' residences for wellness checks and to assist them as needed. If anyone needs assistance to check smoke alarms or replace batteries, please call 613-257-5526, extension 0 and we will send a firefighter to help you.

If possible, please check on your neighbours who may be alone and/or not have access to the internet/social media and advise them of any reliable updates/news you are aware of.

Supplies - There are many neighbouring communities that have had their power restored if you require food, water, gas or supplies.

If there is an emergency which you believe requires the attention of the Public Works Department, please call 613-257-2253.
