Central Bridge Reconstruction Project – IMPORTANT UPDATE!

We will be reaching a significant milestone in the progress of the Central Bridge Reconstruction!  The 18 large concrete girders which will provide the structural backbone of the new bridge will be installed next week by Louis Bray Construction.

The first phase of the girder installation will occur on the north side of the river. A very large crane will be set up on the north approach on Bridge Street and the first step of the process will be to place the 6 girders in the center span from pier to pier. The next step of the process will be the placement of 6 girders on the north span from the north pier to the north abutment. This installation is scheduled to take place on June 28th and 29th. The southern span, scheduled for June 30th, will require the crane to be set up in front of the Town Hall resulting in the closure of Bridge Street from Franklin Street to Mill Street and Mill Street from Bridge Street to Beckwith Street.

Pedestrians will continue to have access to businesses in this area.

Bridge Street Reconstruction Project – IMPORTANT UPDATE!

Concrete crews will be on-site to begin the installation of the new concrete curbs and sidewalks starting at Lake Avenue on the west side of Bridge Street and continuing northward. Staff are anticipating the new concrete curbs could be installed up to Mill Street by the end of the week should weather conditions remain favourable. A separate crew will follow behind with the installation of concrete sidewalk. We are anticipating the sidewalk crew to be on site the week of July 4th.  Accommodations will be made during the installation of the new curbs and sidewalks to ensure pedestrian access to businesses is maintained on the west side of Bridge Street.

The installation of the concrete curb will necessitate the closure of the Municipal parking lots at 84 Bridge Street and 96 Bridge Street (across from the Scotiabank and Royal Bank respectively) It is anticipated these parking lots will need to be closed for approximately 3 days to allow for preparation, pouring and curing of the concrete. On-street parking will remain accessible on the east side of Bridge Street in this area. The anticipated dates for this closure are Tuesday, June 28th up to and including Thursday, June 30th.

Should any revisions to this schedule be required, the Town will provide updates through our CP Scoop e-newsletter and social media.
