Construction Update – October 27th, 2022

The Public Works Department would like to remind residents that weather, staffing, and supply of materials can impact the construction schedule. Activities anticipated for the upcoming week include the following:

Bridge Street Revitalization

With the incredible weather we have had this past week, Louis Bray has made significant progress and now that paving operations are complete, the landscapers will be arriving on Bridge Street to start working on topsoiling, brick reinstatements and begin planting over 40 trees. Additionally, a precast concrete tree grate will be installed at the base of each tree.

The electrical contractor will also be continuing with the installation of the new streetlights, along with further work on the electrical system to prepare for the final electrical connection.

Although Louis Bray Construction continues to achieve further milestones each week on Bridge Street, there is still work to be completed and the Public Works Department is requesting that all those that are travelling through this corridor be mindful that it is still considered an active work zone.

We are encouraging drivers and pedestrians to take extra caution at our pedestrian crossovers! In order to ensure pavement markings are completed while weather conditions are favorable, all road markings for the new crossovers are being completed Thursday overnight. Please be aware that these crossovers are not operational until all signage is in place and the pedestrian crossing indicators are installed and operational.

Central Bridge Replacement

Another significant milestone has been achieved with the completion of the concrete pours for the new decorative arches, northwest retaining wall and sidewalks.

Next steps will include the stripping of all forms, starting the forming of the lookout platforms on both sides of the bridge, pillars for the bridge railing, and approach slabs.

A question that we have heard recently from residents is “Is the bridge schedule on track?” Although there is still a considerable amount of work ahead, representatives of Louis Bray Construction have indicated that they are on track to have the bridge open this December.
