Members of Council, Recreation and Culture staff and representatives from Tal-Co Building Innovations attended a ceremonial ground-breaking at the Neelin Street Community Centre on Friday, September 4th in honour of the extensive renovation work being undertaken at this facility. The work will involve the construction of a two-storey addition which includes four (4) new change rooms meeting today’s standards, a staff room and a new community meeting room on the ground floor. The second storey includes staff offices. The construction will also include:
some minor renovations to the first and second floors of the existing arena to create openings to the new addition;
wiring, mechanical improvements;
painting, lighting improvements and new flooring;
an expansion of and renovations to the lobby area by removing current staff offices, eliminating the existing community room and relocating the canteen from its current location to the area where the existing community room is located.
The work is to be performed in two (2) phases to allow the Arena and the lobby area to be utilized during the 2020-2021 ice season (September 2020 – March 31st, 2021):
Phase 1 – Two-Storey Addition and Second Floor Renovations to be completed by March 31st, 2021
Phase 2 – Ground Floor Lobby Renovations to be completed by July 31st, 2021
The intent is that Phase 1 will be completed prior to commencing Phase 2.
