Construction Update - December 16th 2021

Central Bridge

The Public Works Department would like to express our gratitude to our residents for their patience and understanding while several utility companies have been removing and relocating their infrastructure from the Central Bridge. Residents may have also noticed Louis Bray has been establishing their base of operations at the end of Water Street in advance of starting the Central Bridge Project in January.

Gillies Bridge

Public Works and Louis Bray Construction had hoped to have the Gillies Bridge open to northbound traffic in November, but unfortunately, like so many others, global supply chain issues have created a few delays in the arrival of critical parts.  The critical parts have now arrived, and crews can begin the process of installing the new watermain on the Gillies Bridge.  We are optimistic we will have the Gillies Bridge reopened to northbound traffic in early January once the watermain is commissioned.

Bridge Street Pumping Station

Work is continuing on the Bridge Street Pumping Station and the new generator has been installed.

The Town of Carleton Place asks for everyone’s help in ensuring safe and efficient work zones.  We encourage residents to avoid all construction zones, however, should residents be travelling within the construction zones, we urge you to proceed with caution and follow the directions provided by traffic control personnel and posted construction signage.

We ask for everyone’s patience and cooperation during the construction season, however, should a member of the public have any concerns or questions of a general nature, please contact the Public Works Office at 613-257-2253.
