Construction Update - December 9th, 2022

The Public Works Department would like to remind residents that weather, staffing, and supply of materials can impact the construction schedule.  Activities anticipated for the upcoming week include the following:

Central Bridge Replacement

As mentioned in last week’s update, another critical component for the bridge structure is the installation of the expansion joint which was successfully completed this week. Additionally, the concrete has been poured for the sidewalks on the approaches to the bridge.

Next week, the main focus for Louis Bray’s crews will be the pillar and railing system, and the installation of the new streetlights on the bridge. With a favorable weather forecast for the coming week, it is anticipated that the bridge will be opened to both pedestrian and vehicular traffic before the Christmas holidays.

Louis Bray’s crews have been working very hard to meet the December target to reopen the Central Bridge and they are very aware that the community is extremely eager to see the Central Bridge put back into service.  Although the bridge will be open prior to the holidays, there remains work that will be continuing into January. Staff at Louis Bray are confident that this remaining work can be carried out while keeping the bridge open.  Therefore, traffic control measures will be in place to maintain safe working conditions and there may be short periods in which the flow of traffic may be impacted while still allowing vehicles and pedestrians to cross the bridge.

Please follow the Town’s social media and CP Scoop e-newsletter for updates on the official opening of the Central Bridge as the big day approaches.
