Construction Update - June 11th, 2021

There is currently no shortage of activity occurring within our community and the Town is very busy with many projects underway.  The Town of Carleton Place’s Public Works Department strives to keep our residents informed of this year’s construction activities however, schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, changes in the provision of materials and/or availability of staff.  Upcoming this week:

Sanitary Sewer Flushing

The Carleton Place Public Works Department will be undertaking sanitary sewer cleaning activities from the Mississippi River northwards to the Town limits.  Residents may experience the occasional bubbling sound from their toilets and drains.  Should you have any concerns, please contact our office.

Bridge Street Pumping Station Reconstruction

Sulphur Construction will be returning to recommence their activities for the reconstruction of the pumping station located just north of Townline Road on Bridge Street.

Lansdowne Avenue & Coleman Street

TJL Construction will be installing new concrete curbs and sidewalks within the construction zone along Coleman Street.  Crews will also be removing asphalt and the existing storm sewer at the intersection of Lansdowne Avenue and Coleman Street.  Traffic on Coleman Street will be reduced to one lane periodically, but Lansdowne Avenue is open to local traffic only.  Residents and off-road vehicles can still use the Ottawa Valley Recreation Trail (OVRT) without issue.

Miguel Street

AECON’s crews will be making the final connections on the new watermain.  Once the new watermain is fully connected to the distribution system, crews will backfill the trench with granular material and grade it accordingly. Crews will also be excavating for new curbs where there were no curbs previously.  Crews will also be repairing sidewalks where required.

Santiago Street

Crews will begin repairing sidewalks where needed in the coming days.

Moffatt Street

AECON has begun the installation of new storm sewer infrastructure between High Street and McRostie Street.

Bell Street (Bridge Street to Mullett Street)

Louis Bray crews are making progress.  They are continuing along Bell Street with the installation of the underground infrastructure from Bridge Street to Mullett Street.  Sewer and Water installation will be completed the week of June 14th between Bridge Street and Edmund Street and preparations for the commissioning of the newly installed watermain will commence.

The Town of Carleton Place asks for everyone’s help in ensuring safe and efficient work zones.  We encourage residents to avoid all construction zones, however, should residents be travelling within the construction zones, we urge you to proceed with caution and follow the directions provided by traffic control personnel and posted construction signage.

We ask for everyone’s patience and cooperation during the construction season, however, should a member of the public have any concerns or questions of a general nature, please contact the Public Works Office at 613-257-2253.
