MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT UPDATES

Reminder: Spring Leaf Collection

The curbside collection of leaves will continue next week, Monday, April 20th – Friday, April 24th.  We are asking residents to place the leaf bags at the curb for collection in accordance with the following guidelines:

  • Bags should be at the curb by 7:00 a.m.
  • Public Works will only accept items in paper leaf bags.  Items in plastic bags will not be collected.
  • Bags should not exceed 15kg
  • It is vital for residents to practice social distancing so please do not approach staff collecting yard waste bags.

 

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT UPDATES

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, announced new actions to protect Canadian jobs and provide more support to businesses and organizations dealing with the economic impacts of COVID-19. The Government of Canada will provide over $1.7 billion for targeted measures.

 

The Minister of Transport, the Honourable Marc Garneau, announced new measures requiring all air passengers to have a non-medical mask or face covering to cover their mouth and nose during travel. These measures come into effect at noon on April 20, 2020.

 

PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT UPDATES

The Ontario government is investing $20 million to advance medical research and develop tools and resources to combat COVID-19 and other infectious diseases through the Ontario COVID-19 Rapid Research Fund.

 

The governments of Canada and Ontario are investing up to $1 million in new funding to connect workers with in-demand jobs in the agri-food sector to keep the nation's supply chains strong and store shelves stocked during the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

The Ontario government has partnered with Rogers Communications and Apple to help meet the educational needs of students and families during the COVID-19 outbreak

Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit

Stay Active!

The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit is encouraging people to keep up with daily physical activity and has offered suggestions on safe forms of exercise during the pandemic.

Updated Online Self-Assessment Tool

The Government of Ontario has updated their online self-assessment tool. If you have COVID-19 like symptoms, call your healthcare provider or the Health Unit (1-800-660-5853 ext. 2222) to get a referral. The Health Unit’s Phone Lines are open 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

 

Lanark County – Emergency Financial Assistance

The Province of Ontario has provided relief funding in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. With its allocation, Lanark County has set up an emergency rent/mortgage bank to assist County residents who are behind in their rent/mortgage and are at risk of being evicted or losing their home.
