Covid-19 - Update #5

March 19, 2020

Contact:        Diane Smithson,

                    Chief Administrative Officer

As COVID-19 pandemic is evolving quickly and updates are emerging daily, we want to assure our residents that the Town is monitoring new information as it becomes available in order to be able to ensure the health and safety of our residents.

Social Protocols

During this difficult time, it is imperative that businesses such as grocery stores, pharmacies, etc. remain open to service your family’s needs.  Staff in these essential businesses should be protected from a health and safety perspective.  In order to help ensure their health and safety, the public is encouraged to follow social protocols such as:

  • Limiting the number of people from your family attending the stores to pickup the supplies you need;
  • Practicing social distancing while shopping, waiting in line or in front of workers;
  • Being respectful as staff practice extra sanitizing protocols which may take more time, but will also protect you as a consumer;
  • Consider thanking the workers for their services;
  • Expecting line-ups and delays, so ensure enough time when heading out to run your errands

Federal Economic Response Plan

Further to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s announcement yesterday, please see information about his Economic Response Plan to address impacts to individuals and businesses during this COVID-19 crisis:

Ontario Tele-Health COVID-19

Ontario Tele-Health has posted a self-assessment tool for COVID-19 to determine if you seek further care.  Please follow this link to access the tool:

Leeds Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit

The Health Unit is continuing to update their website when any new information regarding COVID-19 becomes available.

What should you do if you have respiratory systems (e.g. cough, fever, or shortness of breath) after travelling to an affected area?

Call your health care provider and tell them about your symptoms. After hours, or if you do not have a health care provider contact Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000. Do not visit your health care provider or a walk-in clinic without calling ahead to outline your symptoms and travel experience.

Water Service Reinstatement

The Carleton Place Public Works Department is aware that there may be Carleton Place Residents returning home from out of country sooner than originally planned.

If you had the Town turn off your water supply prior to your travels and need it turned back on at a date or time that is outside normal working hours, please contact the Public Works Department’s After-Hours Operator at 613-257-2253. There will be no additional charges applied at this point in time relating to after-hours response.

We still ask that there be someone home in order to ensure that there are no issues inside the home once water flow is reinstated.

Carleton Place Public Works Staff will be implementing all Public Health recommendations in performance of their responsibilities and will be asking anyone that has travelled outside the country to make our staff aware and maintain self-isolation during the process of getting water services reinstated.

Sandbag Availability

In light of the upcoming spring season the Carleton Place Public Works Department wants to ensure that if residents feel the need to sandbag vulnerable areas of their property, there will be a supply of sand and bags located outside the Public Works Yard at 97 Franklin St. (on the Princess St. Side of the Works Yard.

This supply will be available 24/7 commencing Friday, March 20 by 10:00 a.m.
