Covid-19 - Update #74

MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT UPDATES

Public Works Maintenance - Please be advised the following Public Works activities will be occurring on Wednesday, June 3rd:

  • Road Closure - Albert Street (between Beckwith Street – Judson Street) – The street will be closed starting at 7:00 a.m. for repairs to the distribution system.  Detours will be in place to assist residents. 
  • Single Lane Reduction – Waterside Drive – A portion of Waterside Drive will be reduced to one lane for repairs to the water distribution system.  Residents will still be able to use Waterside Drive, however traffic control measures will be in place.

Only those residents impacted by the repairs will be advised of any potential interruptions to the supply of water.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT UPDATES

Prime Minister Trudeau announced that funding delivered through the federal Gas Tax Fund will be accelerated this year to help communities as quickly as possible while respecting public health guidelines.

 

PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT UPDATES

The Ontario government announced that it will continue to support provincial electricity consumers by providing stability and greater customer choice, while helping those struggling to pay their energy bills as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.

June is Seniors’ Month in Ontario. Now more than ever, it is important that we come together to support our seniors and recognize and honour the knowledge, experience and the contributions that seniors have made to build the province that we enjoy today, and that they continue to make every day in communities across Ontario.

June is also National Indigenous History Month which provides an opportunity for all Ontarians to celebrate Indigenous heritage, diversity and culture while acknowledging and reflecting on the achievements of First Nations, Métis and Inuit people.

 

OTHER UPDATES

COVID-19 Community Based Cases

According to the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit’s most recent surveillance report (May 28th, 2020), there have been a total of 154 community-based cases in this region. This number does include health care workers but not retirement and long-term care facility cases. Of the 154 cases, 48 are reported in Lanark East section which is comprised of Mississippi Mills, Carleton Place, Beckwith, Montague and Smiths Falls. Case counts for individual municipalities are not being released by the Health Unit.
