Halloween Neighbourhood Scavenger Hunt

The Town of Carleton Place Recreation and Culture Department is pleased to present the “Carleton Place Halloween Neighbourhood Scavenger Hunt, “which will take place on October 30 & 31 in Carleton Place.

Do you love decorating your house and yard for Halloween? Sign up to be a part of the scavenger hunt! Participating houses must register their address by Wednesday, October 28, 2020 and ensure their houses are decorated by Friday October 30, 2020. The Recreation & Culture Department will then take the list of participating addresses and create Halloween Scavenger Hunts throughout the neighbourhoods of Carleton Place that families can complete in both daytime and evening excursions.

“This event is going to create a unique opportunity for our residents to really get into the Halloween spirit and assist in creating a community-wide Halloween scavenger hunt for families,” says Community Programmer- Jessica Hansen. “We are aware that families are looking for ways to celebrate Halloween that do not involve the traditional door-to-door trick or treating, and we think this will be a terrific alternative.”

Registered houses will be asked to indicate one distinctive decoration that is visible from the sidewalks/streets that can be used as a clue. This information will allow Recreation & Culture Department staff to create diverse neighbourhood scavenger hunts with riddles and clues throughout the town. Families will be given a map of the neighbourhood houses that are participating, and will be given clues for the features of each house to find. They will be instructed to stay on the sidewalk or street, and will be asked to not walk on any lawns or touch any of the decorations. Decorations must be in the Halloween/Spooky spirit, and cannot have any vulgar words or decorations. Participants can choose to stay within their own neighbourhood for a neighbourhood hunt, or travel throughout Carleton Place to continue searching. Paper copies of scavenger hunt maps will be provided, or participants can access the clues online.

Interested houses can obtain more information and register by calling the Carleton Place Arena (613)257-1690, or emailing: jhansen@carletonplace.ca.
