National Forest Week & Tree Day

September 17th to 23rd, 2023, as National Forest Week and September 20th, 2023, as National Tree Day

National Forest Week:

Each year National Forest Week is celebrated across Canada by many individual governments, companies and organizations for the importance forests has played in the development of Canada and still does across the country.

With this year's “Wild Fires” across the country it is important to reflect the the amount of forests, wildlife, properties and human lives we have lost

The forests will recover over time, but properties and lives will not. This year's theme "Canada's Forests: Supporting Biological Diversity” recognizes forests as a valuable “Asset”

National Tree Day

This takes place on the Wednesday of National Forest Week. It Serves as a recognition for all Canadians to appreciate the great benefits trees provide us: clean air, reduction in energy demand, health benefits, wildlife habitat, and the connection with nature. It is an especially important recognition for us in Carleton Place due to the loss of trees in the 2022 Derecho and 2023 Ice Storm

On Wednesday, September 20th, 2023, the Committee invites Council, Staff, other Committees and the general public to help celebrate National Tree Day by gathering to plant a ceremonial tree at Ferrill Park.
