Power Outage Update - May 23rd

Windstorm Updates

The Municipal Emergency Control group has met several times since the storm hit and will be meeting again tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.

Staff will continue to share the latest information as it becomes available.

Compost Yard - In order for residents to be able to dispose of yard waste from the storm, we are opening the Compost Yard at 128 Patterson Crescent for residents of Carleton Place (proof of residency is required) with additional hours as follows:

  • Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 24th, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

  • Wednesday, May 25th, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

We encourage residents from neighbouring communities to check with their municipalities to see what services are available to them.

Most Municipal Facilities Closed – Due to the power outage, the Town Hall, Pool, Library, Station Active Living Centre and Childcare facilities will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, May 24th, 2022. As a result, staff may be unavailable by phone until power is restored.

The Arena upper hall will be open as a charging station.

Municipal Childcare Facilities – Due to the loss of power, the municipal childcare facilities at both the Francis Street and Carambeck Community Centre locations are closed until further notice.

Parents, please check your email for details.

Food Waste – Starting tomorrow, residents can place extra bags of food waste out for collection on your regular garbage day. Please be mindful not to exceed the 15kg weight limit. If the bag is heavy, we are encouraging residents to double bag their waste or keep it in containers until their collection day to avoid spillage and animals getting into it.

Showering Facilities - Limited shower facilities will be available at the Arena tomorrow from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Residents will be required to bring all necessary supplies including towels to have a shower. To access the shower facilities, please go to the Arena doors closest to the trail and follow the signage.

Charging Station - The Arena will be open for device charging tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. We respectfully request that households limit the number of devices to no more than 2 to accommodate the large number of people who require the service. You will need to bring your own charging cables.

Water Supplies - For residents who need water supplies, you can bring your own containers to the Arena for filling.

Alternatively – Mississippi Mills is offering Carleton Place residents the use of the following facilities to access showers, charging or water fill-ups:

Almonte Community Centre (8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.)
181 Bridge Street, Almonte
Showers, charging stations (for cell phones and laptops) and water bottle fill station (drinking water)

Almonte Fire Station (7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.)
478 Almonte Street, Almonte
Small water basin fill-up by garden hose (not for drinking water)

Wellness Checks - Carleton Place Firefighters will be going door to door again tomorrow to Seniors' residences for wellness checks and to assist them as needed. If anyone needs assistance to check smoke alarms or replace batteries, please call 613-257-5526, extension 0 and we will send a firefighter to help you.

Public Works Emergency Line – If there is an emergency which you believe requires the attention of the Public Works Department, please call 613-257-2253.
