MUNICIPAL NEWS

Flash Freeze Warning

The Public Works Department would like to advise residents to use extreme caution this evening as Environment Canada has issued a Flash Freeze Warning. Streets and sidewalks have the potential to become icy very quickly. Public Works staff will be out this evening applying sand and salt, but we are encouraging residents to reduce speeds while driving, leave plenty of distance between themselves and other vehicles, and be careful walking on untreated surfaces.

Environment Canada Warning:

Temperatures are forecast to fall rapidly. Ponding water, slush, and any falling precipitation will freeze as the temperature drops.

Hazard: Sudden icy conditions on roads and walkways.

Timing: This evening.

Discussion: A dramatic change in temperatures is expected this evening with the passage of a sharp cold front. Temperatures are expected to go from well above freezing to below freezing in just a matter of a few hours. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.

The Great Canadian Comedy Caravan Tour: Fundraiser Edition - A Night of Laughter for a Cause

The Carleton Place Youth Centre and Carleton Place Tourism are thrilled to announce the upcoming event, "The Great Canadian Comedy Caravan Tour: Fundraiser Edition," a night filled with laughter, fun, and community spirit. The event will take place on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024, at the Carleton Place Town Hall Auditorium in downtown Carleton Place. Proudly sponsored by Jackson Homes.

Get ready for an unforgettable evening as some of Canada's top comedians take the stage to tickle your funny bone and support a worthy cause. Featuring a stellar lineup of comedic talents, this fundraiser edition of The Great Canadian Comedy Caravan Tour promises non-stop laughter and entertainment for all attendees. Headliner Rick Currie (Rick Mercer Report, Just For Laughs, CBC's Laugh Out Loud, CTV's Comedy Now), will bring down the house the way few can. Local Jim McNally (Just For Laughs, Ha!ifax Comedy Festival, CTV's Comedy Now) is world-renowned for his ability to blend big–city wit with small–town cheekiness. Todd Reid is a touring comedian, working coast to coast, and was featured on Just For Laughs, Italian Week Festival (Main Stage) and a quarter-finalist in the prestigious PAGE International Screenwriting Awards. The event will be hosted by Alastair McAlastair (Sirius XM, CBC, CTV's Comedy Now and On Air personality at the Ottawa Valley's A-Channel and New RO).

"We are excited to bring this special edition of The Great Canadian Comedy Caravan Tour to Carleton Place. Laughter has the power to bring people together, and we're thrilled to harness that power for a good cause," said Todd Reid, Comedy Caravan organizer.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will go towards the Carleton Place Youth Centre, which is facing financial constraints. The Youth Centre is a haven for local children, offering free programming such as arts and crafts, outdoor activities, and leadership opportunities. Attendees can enjoy an evening of comedy while knowing they're contributing to a meaningful cause.

Tickets for "The Great Canadian Comedy Caravan Tour: Fundraiser Edition" are $25 in advance, online, and $35 at the box office on show night (if any remain). Tickets can also be purchased (cash only, no processing fees) at the Carleton Place Youth Centre (360 Edmund Street) or the Carleton Place Visitor Information Centre (170 Bridge Street).

Doors open at 7:00 p.m., and the show is from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. A canteen, hosted by the Carleton Place Youth Centre, will be available at the show.

Don't miss your chance to be part of this incredible night of laughter and philanthropy.
