Animal Control By-Law No. 25-2005
Animal Control Services for the Town of Carleton Place
Effective February 1, 2011, animal control services for the Town of Carleton Place are now provided by Municipal Law Enforcement Services (MLES). MLES is owned and operated by Jim and Darla McBain and has extensive experience in providing this type of bylaw enforcement service to area municipalities. The number for residents to reach the Animal Control Officer is 613-809-7048. Hours of operation for animal control remain 10:00a.m to 6:00p.m, Monday to Friday. Response outside these hours will be for emergency calls only. Animal pound services for Carleton Place are now being provided by the Lanark Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) at their facility located at 253 Glenview Rd., R.R. 3, Smiths Falls. Their hours of operations are 11:00a.m to 4:00p.m, 7 days a week and they can be reached by phone at 613-283.9308. To visit the LAWS website, go to http://www.lanarkanimals.ca/ Stoop and Scoop The owner or the person who has control of the dog is responsible for removing feces left behind on the streets, on public or private property or in parks. Failure to do so will result in a fine. Noise and Nuisance A pet is considered to be a public nuisance, and the owner will receive a fine, if: 1. It causes excessive noises or sounds that disturb inhabitants in an area. 2. It trespasses on or causes damage to another person?s property. Animals at Large Within Town limits, it is prohibited for pet owners to allow their pets to run at large. Your pet is considered to be running at large when found in any place other than the premises of the animal owner and not under the control of any person. Cats must be spayed or neutered, and wearing identification, if let run at large.

Yard Maintenance By-law No. 39-2005
The Town of Carleton Place has passed a Yard Maintenance By-Law to ensure that an attractive and safe community is maintained for all residents. Each yard must be kept free from both weeds and grass which exceeds a height of 200 mm or more. Further, each yard shall be kept in a condition such that brush, heavy undergrowth and all noxious weeds are controlled.
Upon inspection of a yard that does not conform to the above regulations, the Owner will receive a written notice from a By-Law Enforcement Officer. If, within seven days of the notice, the yard still does not conform, a designated Municipal employee will arrange to have the yard remedied at the Owner's expense.
