LANARK COUNTY PROFILE REPORT

CARLETON PLACE OVERVIEW

Carleton Place is a town in Eastern Ontario Canada in Lanark County, approximately a 45 minute drive to Downtown Ottawa and 4.5 hours to Toronto. Carleton Place is located directly on Highway 7 on the Trans-Canada Highway.

We have a long and storied industrial history. With the great Mississippi River flowing through Town, the first settlers found that the location was ideal for milling activities. With four historic mill buildings, still visible along the banks of the river, our industrial history is immediately evident. Along with this initial industry, our downtown grew into a larger and prosperous one, with many different shops and services available.

For most of the 18th and 19th centuries Carleton Place was a key producer of cast iron pans and stoves through the Findlay Foundry.

Carleton Place continues to grow and evolve. During the high-tech boom, Carleton Place was home to several components manufacturers who benefitted from the close proximity to Kanata. This high-tech sector still booms today in Carleton Place, along with specialty machining shops and much more.
