WHEREAS Emergency Preparedness Week is a national Awareness initiative that has taken place annually since 1996; and
WHEREAS it is an opportunity to encourage Canadians to take concrete actions to be better prepared to protect themselves and their families during emergencies; and
WHEREAS the Town of Carleton Place recognizes the importance of Emergency Management in Ontario and the role of government to help secure a strong and healthy tomorrow; and
WHEREAS governments at all levels are working hard to keep Canada safe, everyone has a role to play in being prepared for an emergency. Being prepared means having the knowledge and equipment necessary to better cope during an emergency; and
WHEREAS the three tenets of Emergency Preparedness are: know the risks; make a plan; get a kit;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT I Toby Randell, Mayor of Carleton Place do hereby proclaim May 5th to 11th, 2024 as "Emergency Preparedness Week".
I encourage everyone to make an emergency plan now, before you need one.
