Winter Maintenance

Winter Parking Restrictions
No vehicle shall be parked on Town streets from 12:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. effective November 15th to April 1st.

Snow Cleaning & Removal
No owner or occupant of any building may clean or remove ice or snow from their property or residence and place it onto the property of another owner or occupant or onto a municipal property without consent.

In order to avoid garbage and recyclables being scattered due to snow ploughing/removal operation, the Public Works Department asks that garbage and/or blue boxes be placed in driveways 3 to 4 feet from the street line and not on the street on top of snow banks, if winter maintenance operations are likely to occur.

Current Road Construction Program

Currently the Town roads are in good condition for two reasons:
  • The Town’s budget included funds to rebuild approx. 1km of road each year
  • New subdivisions have included new streets paid for by developers.

The Town now faces two challenges:

  • Cost of asphalt is directly related to the price of oil
  • The new streets in subdivisions which have been recently constructed by developers are beginning to age and are the Town’s responsibility to maintain.

In the coming year, a 10 year plan has been developed requiring an increase of $95,000 in the budget each year to reconstruct and maintain the Town’s roads. Recently, the Province announced a one-time grant of $642,838 for roads, transit, social housing or bridges. Although this is a temporary solution it does not address long term problem. Currently the Town is reworking the construction plans to best address these issues.
