Heritage Museum (267 Edmund Street)
Embroidery is one of the world’s oldest and most beautiful crafts. It has been used to decorate clothes, cushions, home decorations, religious vestments and so much more. Once considered a necessary skill for women, especially those of the gentle classes, it was a way to beautify their garments, homes and serve their faith. It was even an educational tool for their daughters, a way to practice needed sewing skills while learning their alphabet, key morals or scripture passages. Today, while Embroidery is not so obvious in our lives, it is still practiced by some as an art and pastime.
Come and learn more of this beautiful and relaxing craft on February 12 from 2-4, when local resident, Barbara Drake, will share her knowledge, works and love of Embroidery. Admission by donation.
