Council Meeting Highlights - October 27 2020

Council supported a one (1) year extension of the Draft Approval for the Taber Street Subdivision which was scheduled to lapse on December 11th, 2020. A new owner is acquiring the property and has indicated they intend to initiate development as soon as the land sale concludes. Council instructed staff to inform the County of Lanark of the support for the one (1) extension.

Under the federal-provincial Safe Restart Agreement, the Ontario government is providing up to $4 billion in emergency assistance so that municipalities are supported as they respond to COVID-19. Funding is being provided through four (4) streams. Carleton Place was previously allocated $284,900 under Phase 1 of the Municipal Operating Funding stream. Up to $695 million in Phase 2 funding is available to municipalities that can demonstrate COVID-19 related financial impacts exceed the allocation provided in Phase 1. Council passed a motion instructing staff to submit a request for Phase 2 funding under the Municipal Operating Funding stream. The Province will allocate funding based on the financial reporting submitted as part of the request.

By-law No. 89-2020 was passed which will see the Town of Carleton Place enter into a five (5) year agreement with GFL Environmental for the provision of solid waste collection and disposal services.
