Black History Month Proclamation

WHEREAS Black History Month is a time to celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black Canadians to the cultural, economic and political development of Canada; and

WHEREAS it is an opportunity to recognize the important role that Black Canadians Have played and continue to play in our community and country; and

WHEREAS Black History Month is a time to reflect on the history of Black Canadians, their heritage, and their ongoing struggle for equality and justice; and

WHEREAS it is a time to educate ourselves about the experiences of Black Canadians and to work towards a more inclusive and equitable society for all;

NOW THEREFORE I, Toby Randell, Mayor of the Town of Carleton Place, do hereby proclaim the month of February as Black History Month.  I call upon all residents to celebrate the diverse heritage and culture of Black Canadians.

This proclamation is issued with the spirit and intention of the United Nations International Decade for People of African Descent and in recognition of the ongoing contributions of Black Canadians to our community and country.
