Covid-19 - Update #4

Covid-19 - Update #4 - March 18th, 2020

Contact: Diane Smithson,
Chief Administrative Officer

As COVID-19 pandemic is evolving quickly and updates are emerging daily, we want to assure our residents that the Town is monitoring new information as it becomes available in order to be able to ensure the health and safety of our residents.

This morning, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a new set of economic measures to help stabilize the economy and help Canadians affected by the impacts of this challenging period.  A few of these measures include:

  • Support for workers
  • Additional assistance to families with children
  • Introducing an emergency care benefit
  • Funding for workers including self-employed who are sick, caring for quarantined individuals or who have been directed to self-isolate but do not qualify for employment insurance (EI) sickness benefits
  • EI-eligible and non EI-eligible working parents who must stay home without pay because of children who are sick or who need additional care because of school closures
  • Additional assistance to individuals and families with low and modest incomes by providing a special top-up

Update Regarding Winter Ban for On-Street Parking

Given the fact that many people are at home dealing with the effects of COVID-19, the Town of Carleton Place will lift the winter on-street parking ban at this time.  If the Town experiences a snowfall(s) between now and April 1, 2020, the ban will be re-instated to facilitate snowplowing and removal operations.  Please watch for any notices regarding reinstatement through the Town’s social media platforms and website.

We thank all residents for their calm response to self-isolate and monitor themselves for symptoms for up to 14 days in accordance with Health Canada and Public Health Ontario prescribed measures.

As a reminder, in order to stay safe, Health Canada is encouraging Canadians to follow measures found at the following link:
