Construction Update – November 18th, 2021 - The Town of Carleton Place’s Public Works Department strives to keep our residents informed of this year’s construction activities. Please note the following activities are planned for the coming days, however, these activities are subject to change:
Central Bridge Replacement Project
The Town of Carleton Place would like to remind residents that construction will begin on the Central Bridge Replacement project starting early January 2022. Residents may notice activity on/near the Central Bridge as the utility companies are continuing with the removal of their infrastructure from the bridge in advance of the construction. Residents may have noticed the large banner above Bridge Street and will also start to see signs being erected at strategic locations advising motorists and pedestrians of the bridge closure in early January 2022. In the next few weeks, we will also be releasing the designated detour routes for vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
The Town of Carleton Place has been and will continue to work closely with the downtown businesses to help them navigate the months ahead. If residents would like additional information about the Central Bridge or the Bridge Street Revitalization projects, information is available on the Town’s website.
We encourage all our residents to continue to support our local businesses and to continue to shop & dine within our downtown area!
Lake Avenue West (Mississippi Road to the entrance of Mississippi Shore Development)
The Town of Carleton Place would like to remind residents of the lane reductions starting Saturday, November 20th on Lake Avenue West from Mississippi Road to the entrance of the Mississippi Shores development as Cavanagh Construction will be excavating and removing rock for the installation the new watermain and a sanitary sewer forcemain for the Mississippi Shores development.
Should residents have any questions or concerns they may contact Cavanagh Construction at 613-257-2918.
Paving operations have been completed except the areas required for the final watermain connections. Clean up operations will continue next week along with the relocation of the staging area from Rosamond Street to the new staging area that will be utilized for the Central Bridge Replacement at the end of Water Street. The Gillies Bridge and Mill Street Bridge will remain closed until the new watermain has been mounted on bridge structures and the final watermain commissioning process has been completed. It is anticipated that this will occur by mid-December.
The Town of Carleton Place would like to remind residents that for safety reasons, pedestrians must use the OVRT to cross the Mississippi River.
The Town of Carleton Place asks for everyone’s help in ensuring safe and efficient work zones. We encourage residents to avoid all construction zones, however, should residents be travelling within the construction zones, we urge you to proceed with caution and follow the directions provided by traffic control personnel and posted construction signage. We ask for everyone’s patience and cooperation during the construction season, however, should a member of the public have any concerns or questions of a general nature, please contact the Public Works Office at 613-257-2253.
