WHEREAS, over 100,000 Canadians live with Parkinson's disease - a disorder of the central nervous system that results in a person gradually losing the ability to control body movements; and
WHEREAS, symptoms can vary and include tremors, slowness of movement, difficulty with balance, swallowing, chewing, and speaking, and a variety of other non-motor symptoms; and
WHEREAS, World Parkinson's Day aims to raise awareness and share available resources with those with this debilitating disease and their loved ones.
NOW THEREFORE, I TOBY RANDELL, MAYOR of the Town of Carleton Place do hereby proclaim April 11, 2024, as "WORLD PARKINSON'S DAY"
