3rd Annual EarthFEST 2025

What:

A free event celebrating our beautiful world, with many fun, sustainable things to do and to so much to learn about for the whole family!

This free event offers workshops, activities, and entertainment for all ages, presented by the Carleton Place Environmental Advisory Committee (CPEAC). Featuring an expanded range of workshops, performances, and food, and other vendors at Market Square from 11:00 am-3pm, plus satellite events at the Grand Hotel (7 Bridge St.) and the Carleton Place Library (101 Beckwith St., running all day).

Learn: how to reduce household waste, start a garden, compost and recycle properly, preserve and can food, create an environmentally friendly watercolour painting, and more! Learn about climate and health concerns, how you can be part of water quality protection in the Mississippi corridor, how to choose the right EV, learn about native and invasive plants and how to plant and care for a tree (free seedlings available from the Carleton Place Urban Forest Committee!). A Climate Scientist will be on hand to provide understanding. Take in one of many presentation workshops.

Engage with the many Lanark County organizations and experts that will be on hand to answer your questions about the great things they are doing to take care of our environment and how you can help.

Meet Esteemed Authors & Environmentalists: We are so very pleased to be presenting, Diana Beresford-Kroeger’s life’s work as a botanist, biochemist, biologist and poet of the global forest, she delivers a challenge to us all to dig deeper into the science of forests and the ways they will save us from climate breakdown—and then do our part to plant and protect them. Diana will do a presentation at the Grand Hotel and be available for book signings.

Lorraine Johnson – The Canadian author of numerous books on growing native plants, gardening for pollinators, restoring habitat, and producing food in cities, Lorraine’s work focuses on people and communities growing plants, ecological health, and connection to nature and to each other. Lorraine will provide an inspirational talk at the Grand Hotel and be on hand at the event selling her books, and signings.

Jill Heinerth – We are so happy to have Jill as part of the festival this year, whose adventures in underwater exploration in the Mississippi and Ottawa rivers are featured in the new film Into the Planet. Jill will be selling her books at this event and will be providing a wonderful talk on protection of our local waterways.

Enjoy great performances by wonderful musician Vicki Brittle and Ian Tamblyn, live youth theatre, by Play Where You Live and a wonderful sustainable fashion show lovingly organized & emceed by our Town’s own Linda Seccaspina.

Savor delicious food by Blue Spoon Atelier, and refreshments (including vegan options!) and quality products and services and handmade artisanal creations at our Sustainable Marketplace, including native plants from Kiwi Gardens.

The Carleton Place & District Horticultural Society will be offering 3 different gardenrelated activities for children as well! There are Fun games to try your hand at as well. Face painting and an Earth Day Art Display by local Grade 4 students.

PARKING & SHUTTLE:
There will be additional parking at the Independent Grocers Parking Lot at the corner of Hwy 7 & McNeely Ave. AND a shuttle provided by Lanark County Transportation. Consider providing them with a donation.
