Dog and/or Cat License

Residents are reminded that under By-law 25-2005 every dog or cat owner is required to register their animals. For cats, it is a one-time registration. Dog owners are required to purchase an annual license (sometimes referred to as dog tag) for each dog. These requirements are in place to assist the animal control officers in ensuring that any lost, injured or stray animals can be returned to their owners.

Licenses can be purchased in-person at Town Hall during regular business hours.

Licensing Your Pet Just Got Easier

Starting January 1st, 2025, the Town of Carleton Place is introducing enhanced pet licensing services through our Carleton Place Online portal. We’ve improved our dog licensing system to provide better value for pet owners – dog licenses will now last a full 12 months from the date of purchase, rather than expiring at the end of the calendar year. All dog licenses will be available at a flat rate of $25.

Cat owners can also register their feline friends through the same convenient online system. Cat licenses are valid for the lifetime of your pet, with fees of $25 for spayed/neutered cats and $70 for non-spayed/neutered cats.

Watch for the launch of these new services on Carleton Place Online in the new year. Keep your furry family members properly licensed and help us maintain a safe, responsible pet community.
