Parks and Greenspaces

Swing, dig and play in one of our 30 parks and playgrounds.  From climbing structures and swings to interactive games, sensory areas and greenspaces, there’s something for everyone!

Public Parks and Playgrounds

The age-inclusive park includes two play structures, a large swing area, a basketball court, and greenspace. The Mississippi Riverwalk Trail also runs through this park, which creates a nice walking/running path to the Carleton Place Arena.

This park is located behind the Carleton Place Arena.  This small community park includes a play structure designed for all abilities, a sand play area, and open greenspace.

This park offers an open greenspace for local residents, a splash pad in the summer months, and an outdoor rink in the winter months.

This park is located in the middle of downtown Carleton Place adjacent to the Ottawa Valley Recreation Trail (OVRT).  It offers a large accessible play structure designed for children of all ages, a skate park, a pump track, an outdoor rink/sports pad, community oven, outdoor washrooms and performance pavilion.

This fully enclosed dog park is located behind the Carleton Place Pool.  It offers bench seating and garbage cans.

This quiet park offers an open greenspace for local residents.

On the north side of the Mississippi River, Centennial Park includes a small beach, a picnic area, a soccer field, and an open greenspace. This park also has a small dock for recreational canoe/kayak usage.

This park includes paved pathways, a toddler play area, a senior play area for ages 5-12, accessible sand table and swings that include a saucer seat and an inclusive seat. 

This age-inclusive park offers two play structures, a sensory play area, a basketball court, and benches.

Come and visit our grass Labyrinth which is cared for by the Labyrinth Committee. The labyrinth is an ancient spiritual tool which has been used for over 4000 years. The labyrinth pattern is similar to a circle, one of nature’s most basic forms, a symbol of harmony, grace and transformation. One entrance point guides the walker through a series of switchbacks that leads eventually to the center of the pattern. Walking a labyrinth is reported to support healing, meditation and personal growth.

This park is located in the Carleton Landing subdivision.  This park includes an accessible play structure, splash pad, shaded pavilion, benches, and accessible picnic tables.

This park offers a playground for children, complete with a variety of creative play equipment, swings, and lots of greenspace for group activities.

This nature themed park includes a play structure suitable for all ages, paved pathways and bench area.

This park has a small gravel pathway around the stormwater pond, a play structure suitable for children of all ages and abilities, and ample greenspace. 

Located on historic Mill Street this park features the rare and beautiful Hackberry tree, thought to be a legacy from our nomadic First Nations Peoples. Enjoy a picnic along the Mississippi River with a view of the dam.

Located beside a natural backdrop of a wooded area, this age-inclusive park features a play structure with swings.

Located on Johnston Street, this park offers a safe playground for children, complete with a variety of creative play equipment.

Located in Mississippi Manor, this park includes a play structure for all ages, swings that include a tire swing, large picnic area, basketball court, and plenty of greenspace. This park also has the court and posts for volleyball, just bring your own net!

This park lies in the centre of town right beside the library.  It is the perfect place to sit and reflect with the memorial cenotaph located in this park.

This multi-generational park has something for everyone.  There is a junior play area, a senior play area for ages 5-12, splash pad, sand play area, swings that include a saucer seat and an inclusive seat, fitness equipment, paved pathways and a shade shelter.

This spacious stone dust covered nature trail winds through a filled in wetland area, perfect for dog-walking or jogging.  Enter the O-Kee-Lee Trail via Centennial Park and enjoy a river view seat on the benches across the water from the Carleton Place Canoe Club.

This large park is located on the west end of John Street and runs along the Mississippi River.  It includes a boat launch, open greenspace, a picnic area, a beautiful beach, splash pad, two play structures, and swings.

This park offers a fully enclosed dog park, over 3km of walking trails containing historical plaques, and two picnic pavilions.

Located just north of the Central Bridge, this park holds a memorial for Captain Arthur Roy Brown, the Great War flying ace credited for bringing down Baron Manfred Von Richthofen, the legendary Red Baron. 

This park offers a natural, non-maintained trail.  Whether you are walking or bird watching, this is the perfect trail to enjoy nature’s beauty.

Located along the north side of the Mississippi River, enjoy sitting and watching the river flow by. This park is adult-oriented and features the Carleton Place Cairn which consists of stones from 16 countries and is a Carleton Place treasure.

Located just behind the Town Hall on Mill Street, the Town Hall Square is situated right on the Mississippi River.  Enjoy the shaded seating, seasonal washroom facilities, and life-sized chess and checker courts.  Chess and Checker pieces are available for loaning at the Visitor’s Centre at 613-257-1976.

This age inclusive park has a play structure, swings that include an inclusive swing, fitness equipment, benches, and a shaded pavilion.

This park includes two play structures, swings, ample greenspace for free play, an adult basketball court, and a smaller basketball court for children.

Located on King Street, this park has a structure designed for all ages and abilities, green space and several picnic tables and benches. There is also a paved pathway connecting neighbouring streets.


Nature Trails & Walking Paths

Find history and views of the river on the many trails in and around the town. Most trails are typically less than three km. Their short and low impact flow require limited skill and are suitable for everyone.

Grab a copy of the Self Guided Walking Tours at the Visitor’s Centre and enjoy taking in the sights and sounds of Carleton Place! Enjoy a historic nature walking tour and/or historic heritage building walking tour down Bridge Street.

This nature trail runs from Princess Street to Anthony Curro Park. This trail is perfect for the history buff or anyone wanting to learn a bit more about our town’s unique location. Enjoy the smells, sights and sounds of the Mississippi River.

A spacious nature trail, perfect for dog-walking or jogging. Enter the O-Kee-Lee Trail via Centennial Park and enjoy a river view seat on the benches along the trail.

Formerly the Canadian Pacific Railway track, the OVRT runs from Smith’s Falls to Mattawa. This multiuse trail welcomes patrons on foot, wheels, skis and hooves alike. With several beautiful lookouts and several access points throughout the Carleton Place stretch, this is the perfect trail for an outdoor adventure.

Located in Riverside Park, discover the historic Carleton Place Canoe Club, learn about the downtown core, and finish up at the scenic town boat launch.

Enjoy a 7 km stroll along the Mississippi, connecting the village of Appleton to Carleton Place. This trail runs just below the McNeely Avenue Bridge at Highway 29 to the junction of Hillcrest Drive and River Road in Appleton.

Located within Roy Brown Park, this series of trails have been extended to as series of loops equaling approximately 3km. You’re invited to come for a walk or run in our newest park and take in the tranquil beauty.

Located at 13 Bates Drive, enjoy this natural, non-maintained trail. Whether you’re walking or bird watching, this is the perfect trail to enjoy nature’s beauty.

The Trans Canada Trail is a 18,078 km recreational corridor winding its way through every province and territory, linking 800 communities on route. The local section of this trail starts at the intersection of McNeely Avenue at Cavanagh Road. Parking available.
