The Town of Carleton Place has declared a Significant Weather Event in response to current winter weather conditions that are impacting travel throughout the Town of Carleton Place. This declaration is made pursuant to Ontario Regulation 239/02, Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways.
The intent of this notification is to advise that, due to current or forecasted weather conditions, residents should exercise an abundance of caution when travelling on municipally maintained roads and sidewalks as the current weather conditions will result in Town staff taking longer than usual to bring municipal streets and sidewalks back to a state of repair. We ask for your patience as the Public Works crew works around the clock to clear our roads and sidewalks.
A significant weather event is issued when the weather forecast, or actual weather condition(s) includes one (1) or more of the following conditions:
• Significant snow accumulation during a 24-hour period,
• Ice formation that occurs with no warning from the weather forecast,
• High winds leading to large snow drifts,
• Cold temperature when de-icing operations will no longer be effective.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather conditions and follow updates provided by the Town of Carleton Place posted on the Town’s website and social media. The Town will issue a statement when the Significant Weather Event has ended.
Environment Canada has issued a Winter Storm Warning that is still in effect. They are advising that the snow will continue today and end this evening. The heaviest snow is expected this morning and afternoon. Conditions will rapidly deteriorate this morning as a more significant area of snow and blowing snow arrives. Travel will be hazardous and is not recommended. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
Reminder – Overnight Winter Parking
