Background:

Dena grew up on a beef farm in southwestern Ontario. After finishing school for environmental technical engineering she moved to the Ottawa area to continue her career in environmental and geotechnical engineering. Dena settled in Carleton Place in 2006, shortly after getting married. Following the birth of her first child she made the decision to change gears and careers to have a more flexible, family friendly schedule. At that time she purchased The Granary, Bulk & Natural Foods in downtown Carleton Place and joined the local small business community. She now has three active children and continues to run her growing small business in the heart of Carleton Place.

For the past 15 years Dena has been an active member of the Carleton Place community. She was a founding member and recent chair of the Environmental Advisory Committee (CPEAC) and sat on the Urban Forest River Corridor Committee for several years. As a small business owner Dena likes to share her time with the business community as both a member and past chair of the downtown Business Improvement Area (BIA) and the Chamber of Commerce. More recently she was the chair of the Carleton Place Youth Centre.

Dena is a community builder and team player who believes that Carleton Place can preserve its small town charm and community feels while tackling the needs and challenges of sustainable growth.  Dena looks forward to representing and connecting the Carleton Place community while making smart decisions to preserve the triple bottom line – People, Profit, Planet. She encourages you to reach out with your concerns, questions and ideas at any time.
