Background

I was born and raised in Carleton Place, the youngest of four children in a military family. Luckily, Ottawa was my father’s last posting, and so enjoyed the idealistic upbringing of our small town without the turmoil of moving every couple of years like my siblings did.

Growing up I loved the outdoors and all sports, both of which were plentiful in and around Carleton Place. Hockey was my passion and like so many of my friends, I grew up wanting to play for our Legion Kings Junior B team. I was fortunate enough to play for them for parts of 4 seasons and captained the team for 2 years. I still play with many of my childhood friends twice a week on our local Puc-Men old boys’ team.

I took Fire Protection in college, but my interests moved to management (business/personnel) and I spent the next 20 years doing so in finance, printing, and retail before eventually starting my own hockey and clothing business which I co-owned for a decade.

My wife Laura and I have 5 children (Zachary, Alex, Lucas, Devin and Finnley) ranging in age from 27 to 9. We live in the heart of Carleton Place in a Victorian home we purchased to fix up and restore.

I ran for council and mayor, because I wanted to use my people and management skills to help preserve Carleton Place’s small-town appeal as we transition through a period of heavy growth. I work best in a team atmosphere but am very comfortable in making tough individual decisions respecting both our team and processes to better our community for the decades to come.
