The Therapeutic (Hot Pool) at the Carleton Place Aquatic Centre will be closed from Tuesday, November 25th, through to Sunday, December 21st, due to necessary repairs. We apologize for the inconvenience.

National Lifeguard – POOL RECERT

Bring proof of certification or your Lifesaving ID.

National Lifeguard Recertification: To remain “current”, National Lifeguards must successfully complete a National Lifeguard recertification exam. The only items evaluated on a National Lifeguard recertification examination are marked with a (†) symbol in the At-a-glance list of test items, on the test sheets and in the National Lifeguard Award Guide.


Upcoming Dates for National Lifeguard Recertification: June 8th, 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The National Lifeguard recertification exam is your opportunity to demonstrate your skills and recertify your award. You are responsible for reviewing the required content and skills and preparing yourself for the exam. Your exam is based on the National Lifeguard Award curriculum. The required content for this curriculum can be found in your Alert text and the Canadian Lifesaving Manual. Candidates should bring a whistle, barrier devices (gloves and pocket mask) and proof of prerequisite (previous National Lifeguard certification).

Swim Definitions

Lane Swim – Open to all ages with supervision policy in effect. Main pool is divided into 3 lanes for lap swimming. The Diving board and Hot/Wading pool are not open.

Adult Swim – Open to those who are 18 years of age and older. Main Pool is divided into 3 lanes for lap swimming. One recreational lane has easy stair access. Hot/Wading Pool are open.

Public Swim – Open to all ages with supervision policy in effect. Main Pool is divided in half separating the deep and shallow end. Hot / Wading pool is available. Children who are non swimmers are not allowed to attend without a parent or caregiver in the water as well.

Therapeutic Pool ONLY – Main pool is not available.

Admission / Supervision Policy

This policy is enforced to ensure that all children & high risk individuals who attend the recreational swims are supervised by a competent swimmer for the duration of the visit.

· Children 5 years and younger must be accompanied by a caregiver who is responsible for their direct supervision and are within arms reach at all times. Maximum of two children for each caregiver.

· Children 6 and 7 years old, who are non-swimmers must be accompanied by a person who is at least 14 years of age and responsible for their direct supervision. Ratio 1:4 when no lifejackets are used; Ratio 1: 6 when all children are wearing a lifejacket.

· Children 8 to 10 years old, who do not pass the swim test must be accompanied by a person who is at least 14 years of age and responsible for their direct supervision. Ratio 1:4 when no lifejackets are used; Ratio 1:8 when all children are in lifejackets.

· Children 8 to 10 years old, who pass the swim test, no direct supervision is required by the caregiver; however, caregivers must remain in the building.

· Swim Test: Swim 25 meters of the pool on their front, no stopping.

· Responsible caregiver who is directly supervising children in their care must be in proper bathing attire, in the water, actively participating and within arms reach of the children in their care.

· High risk participants: Ratio is 1:1. High risk participants are defined as those who have a condition or illness that may put them at risk in an aquatic environment and those who are unable to control their behaviour or impulses and require direct supervision.

Pool Admission / Supervision Policy

  • Childre under the age of 6 must be within arms’ reach of a parent or guardian (max. 2 children per parent or guardian).
  • Children under the age of 10 and are NON/WEAK swimmers must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at least 14 years of age and who are responsible for their direct supervision (max 4 per parent / guardian)
  • Children under the age of 10 years who are swimmers must be able to swim a minimum of 25 meters and the parent / guardian must remain in the facility. A swim test is required.
  • Children 6 years of age and older must use appropriate gender change rooms.

Centennial, Riverside Beach, and Splash Pad
