Today, members of Council and staff joined the Carleton Place Urban Forest River Corridor Committee for a Ceremonial Tree Planting on Sussex Street.
Councillor Mark Hinton brought greetings on behalf of Council.
“Today, as we plant these trees, we’re doing more than putting roots in the ground. We’re investing in the future of Carleton Place.
Each tree we plant helps clean the air we breathe, shade our streets and homes, and protect the Mississippi River by slowing runoff and reducing erosion. Over time, these trees will capture carbon, cool our neighbourhoods in the summer, and even shelter us from the wind in the winter.
But the benefits go beyond the environment. Tree-lined streets are more inviting, property values rise, and families feel more connected to their community. Simply put, trees make Carleton Place healthier, more beautiful and more resilient.
We’re proud of the steps our town is already taking with programs like the Bare Root Tree Planting initiative. But today reminds us that each of us can be a part of this effort. Together, we can ensure that future generations grow up in a greener, stronger Carleton Place.”
National Tree Day is celebrated every September, on the Wednesday of National Forest Week. It is a day to honour the beauty, strength, and vital role of trees in our lives. More than a celebration, it’s a call to action! Plant, learn, and make a lasting impact on our environment. To learn more, visit the Tree Canada website.
