JANUARY 2025
WHEREAS Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurological disorder that affects memory, thinking, and behavior, impacting individuals, families, and communities across Canada; and
WHEREAS more than 597,000 Canadians are currently living with dementia, with this number expected to rise significantly in the coming years as our population ages; and
WHEREAS Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia affect not only those diagnosed but also their families, friends, and caregivers who provide essential support and care; and
WHEREAS raising awareness about Alzheimer’s disease promotes earlier diagnosis, better support for those affected, and encourages research toward prevention and treatment; and
WHEREAS the Town of Carleton Place recognizes the importance of creating a dementia-friendly community that supports the dignity, inclusion, and quality of life for all residents living with dementia and their caregivers; and
WHEREAS January serves as an opportunity to educate our community about Alzheimer’s disease, reduce stigma, and encourage compassion and understanding for those affected;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Toby Randell, Mayor of the Town of Carleton Place, on behalf of Council, do hereby proclaim January 2026 as ALZHEIMER’S AWARENESS MONTH in the Town of Carleton Place and encourage all residents to learn more about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, to support those affected, and to foster a compassionate and informed community.
