International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women – November 25, 2026

WHEREAS, the United Nations General Assembly designated November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women to raise awareness of, and call for action to end, violence against women and girls around the world; and

WHEREAS, violence against women and girls remains one of the most widespread human rights violations, affecting women and girls in every country and community, including our own; and

WHEREAS, November 25 also marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which conclude on December 10, Human Rights Day; and

WHEREAS, the 2026 theme, ensure justice, protect survivors, end impunity, calls on all levels of government, institutions and communities to hold perpetrators accountable, to ensure that survivors are believed, supported and protected, and to remove the barriers that prevent survivors from accessing justice; and

WHEREAS, the Town of Carleton Place recognizes the vital work of local shelters, community agencies, first responders and advocates who support survivors and work every day to prevent violence;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Toby Randell, Mayor of the Town of Carleton Place, do hereby proclaim November 25, 2026, as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women in the Town of Carleton Place.

I encourage all residents to learn about the signs of gender-based violence, to support survivors in our community, and to stand together in the shared commitment to ensure justice, protect survivors and end impunity.
