WHEREAS Black History Month is an annual observance that recognizes the profound contributions, achievements, and resilience of Black Canadians throughout our nation’s history; and
WHEREAS Black History Month provides an opportunity to celebrate Black excellence, acknowledge the ongoing struggle for equality and justice, and reflect on the rich cultural heritage that Black communities have brought to Canada; and
WHEREAS the Town of Carleton Place is committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable community that values diversity and recognizes the importance of understanding and learning from our shared history; and
WHEREAS this year’s theme, “30 Years of Black History Month: Honouring Black Brilliance Across Generations – From Nation Builders to Tomorrow’s Visionaries” encourages all Canadians to deepen their understanding of Black history, amplify Black voices, and take meaningful action toward creating a more just and inclusive society;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Toby Randell, Mayor of the Town of Carleton Place, do hereby proclaim Black History Month, February 2026 in Carleton Place.
I encourage all residents to reflect on how we can all contribute to building a more equitable community for everyone.
