WHEREAS a circular economy seeks to eliminate waste and pollution by keeping products, materials and resources in use for as long as possible and supporting the regeneration of natural systems; and
WHEREAS transitioning from a linear “take-make-waste” model to a circular economy can conserve natural resources, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect biodiversity and decrease the amount of waste sent to landfill; and
WHEREAS circular practices—including reducing consumption, repairing, reusing, sharing, refurbishing, repurposing, composting and recycling—can strengthen local economies, encourage innovation and help make communities more resilient; and
WHEREAS governments, businesses, institutions and residents all have a role in making thoughtful purchasing decisions, extending the useful life of products and reducing waste; and
WHEREAS Circular Economy Month builds upon the legacy of Waste Reduction Week in Canada and provides an opportunity to celebrate individual and collective achievements while encouraging further action toward a sustainable future;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Toby Randell, Mayor of the Town of Carleton Place, do hereby proclaim October 2026 as Circular Economy Month in the Town of Carleton Place and encourage residents, businesses and community organizations to learn about and adopt circular practices that reduce waste, conserve resources and contribute to a more sustainable and resilient community.
